My Favorite Food In San Diego

I obviously haven't tried everything and I'm not the go-to food critic, but of what I have tried, here are some of my faves:

My favorite food in San Diego:
La Especial Norte
Tortilla Soup - if there's one thing I recommend, this is it. Go for the large. It's the best soup I've ever had. They say it'll cure what ails you. Located in Encinitas/Leucadia near Lou's Records on the 101.

Best Burger in San Diego ? There's no such thing as best, everyone has different criteria. People rave about Hodad's, even Guy Fieri of the Food Network. I was not impressed. My tomatoes were still frozen.
What's my criteria? Grass-fed beef, all organic, and all natural.
My favorite burger in San Diego:
Burger Lounge. Great Burger!
I've yet to try Bareback or Torrey Pines, but I have tried Just Burgers (3 times-the 2nd time to make sure I didn't like it and the 3rd time to try the fish sandwich) and don't recommend it. But when you're in LA, try the Hatch Burger at Umami Burger, that's the best burger I've ever ordered.

My favorite sandwiches in San Diego:
My fave is the Eggplant Parmesan at Filipi's. It's not on the menu, you have to wait 15 min, it costs about $8 and it'll feed 2. I love it.
Another great sandwich is The Diego at Gaglione Bros. They're famous for authentic Phillys (which The Diego is not) but not being from Philly I guess, I wasn't into the cheesesteak. The Diego is grilled chicken breast, onions, jalapenos, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and mayo. Doesn't sound impressive, but it was awesome.

If there's one thing that San Diego has food-wise it's Mexican. Taco shop Mexican. You won't find Mexican like San Diego's anywhere. It's on every corner, it's open 24 hours and it's cheap. You really can't go wrong. Especially the California Burrito. Taco shops disagree on some of the ingredients, but it's always carne asada, potatoes (often french fries) and cheese. Some add guacamole, some add sour cream, pico de gallo or onions. My favorite at the moment is from Santana's. The one in Mission Beach seems to be the best quality. Santana's 1lb California comes with the Grilled Chicken option. I love me some carne asada, but my fave burrito is Santana's California with chicken add guacamole.

I love Thai food. LOOOVE Thai food. But I recently lived in Seattle and have yet to find Thai in SD that can compete with Seattle, especially Bahn Thai - lower Queen Anne on Roy between 4th and 5th.

I also love Pho. Pho Cali is decent, I think Pho Hoa in Linda Vista might be better. I'm still on the lookout for one that's as good as Than Brothers in Seattle.
